Week #376
Summer has definitely arrived to Madrid: +30° during the week, with a small drop these last days. I’m becoming more and more jealous of Aitor and Iceland’s summer as the hell that Madrid is in August gets closer.
This week we have been working in all of our open fronts.
Once Verkami+ is out, Aitor has been working on our old friend Verkami adding some new features and improving its backend. As we’ve said before polishing never ends once a project is online.
I continue with the development/support of Plankio & Qstion. We stick to the original plan, at least to our part of it. Unfortunately Plankio’s founders are having some problems to get an important part of their project delivered by a third party.
We have been also working on Bazaar. We’re finishing its system for importing new products (data coming from ‘official’ sources). The amount of data is pretty big but Aitor’s design looks very promising for dealing with it. I’m just trying to get a bunch of external systems to work together. This should be pretty easy in the cloud era but unfortunately not all industries live in a world of cooperative & good designed services.
And finally Stage. Our own payment gateway is definitely closer. Aitor is getting the last pieces together and next week I should start the PCI compliance process. I’ve been reading and learning a lot about it lately. This is one of those areas in which most of their professionals try to use fear as marketing weapon, like for example privacy law consultancies. They should definitely focus on its advantages instead, I’m sure results would be much better.
And now my recommendation for the weekend. This week I recommend you to watch Joe Krauss’s talk Slowtech.
In this talk Joe goes through a path I’ve followed myself since my first son was born 3½ years ago. I really share most of his ideas and conclusions about our crisis of attention and, to some extend, humanity. I spend A LOT of time with my son and one of the most difficult parts of it was to accept that when I’m with him I MUST BE with him. No iPhone, no Linking Paths, no Stage.
Take a look at yourself. For example, how many times you check your email/twitter/whatever when having dinner or just talking to someone else?. Do you feel the need of answering every email immediately?. Are those things really necessary?.
Enjoy the video and have a nice weekend.
